DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KFGO) – Chickens will not be allowed in Devils Lake.
The city commission has voted 4-1 to keep a ban on backyard chickens in place. The commission rejected a rewrite of an ordinance that sought to allow residents to keep a limited number of chickens on their property.
“I just truly believe that there’s places for chickens and farm animals and the city isn’t where it’s at. Because of my past work experience with nuisances and troubles with things like this, it just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do,” says Mayor Jim Moe, the former fire chief.
Not one resident spoke for or against the backyard chicken ban.
The commission received a request from a resident a few months ago asking that she be allowed to have chickens in her backyard.
