MINNEAPOLIS – About half of all flights at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport – over 400 – had been canceled by Wednesday afternoon due to the winter storm, and another 200 had for Thursday, when the worst of the storm is expected.
Kyle Potter with Minnesota-based Thrifty Traveler expects that number to grow.
“Then the question becomes, just how long does this go on,” Potter said. “We’ve seen that these kinds of challenging weather events that have happened over the last two-plus years have really pushed many airlines past their breaking point.”
Potter said Delta and Sun Country are most affected because they account for about 80 percent of all flights at MSP.
The snowstorm is also impacting flights in Denver, plus several smaller regional airports in the Midwest, causing a domino effect.
Potter said passengers who have a flight in the next few days should, at the very minimum, have the airline’s mobile app on their phone.
