MINNEAPOLIS – Activists marched at the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus Friday night, demanding justice for what they call brutal police murders of Tyre Nichols and other victims.
Cal Mergendahl with Students for a Democratic Society said it needs to stop.
“The sort of like ‘reforms’ that we have on the ground aren’t working. It’s not enough,” Mergendahl said. “We need real, solid accountability and, unfortunately, we – and really nowhere else in the country really – has that at the moment.”
Another group is collecting signatures to put a proposal before Minneapolis voters for an elected Civilian Police Accountability Council which would be able to discipline officers and set budgets for the police department.
