EAGAN, Minn. – More affordable health insurance and health care, and better broadband and cellular connectivity in rural areas are among Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation’s top priorities for the upcoming legislative session.
Farm Bureau President Dan Glessing says that includes mental health resources.
“I would say over half our board had first-hand knowledge of someone who took their own life, or some situation of mental health,” Glessing said.
Glessing says between federal infrastructure and state dollars, enough funding is already available to get started on bringing better broadband and cellular services to rural parts of the state.
“Let’s get started,” Glessing said. “Let’s see some results of these programs; some of these funds. Let’s get going on it and see where we end up. If we need more, we can handle that later, but let’s get going on what we already do have funded.”
Glessing says farmers’ technology needs are increasing.
Glessing says they’ll also ask lawmakers to expand the beginning farmer tax credit – something talked about last session that didn’t get done.
