GRAND FORKS – No. 19 North Dakota rallied from a 3-0 deficit to even the game early in the third, but Jack Clement’s goal at 14:34 of the final frame gave Miami a 4-3 victory on Saturday night from Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks, N.D.
UND (5-6-2, 2-3-1 NCHC) fell into a 3-0 hole midway through the contest, but goals from Riese Gaber and Gavin Hain cut the deficit to just one, 3-2, after 40 minutes of play. In the third, Jackson Blake struck just 5:06 into the period on a 2-on-1 with Gaber to complete the rally and tie the game; however, Clement broke the deadlock with his first goal of the season to secure the victory for Miami (5-7-2, 1-6-1 NCHC).
Drew DeRidder surrendered three goals on 11 shots and was lifted for Jakob Hellsten who suffered the loss after allowing one tally on five shots against. Miami goaltender Ludvig Persson turned aside 33-of-36 shots, including 13 in the third period, to collect his first victory against North Dakota in five starts.
North Dakota moves back to nonconference play for a home-and-home Thanksgiving showdown against Bemidji State beginning Friday in Bemidji at 7:30 p.m.
