STEELE, N.D. (KFGO) – A Bismarck man suffered fatal injuries in a two-vehicle crash on I-94 a mile east of Steele in central North Dakota Thursday night.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said Steve Maier, 64, was driving a pickup pulling a horse trailer loaded with 10 cows around 9 p.m. when his vehicle was rear-ended by an SUV, entered the median, and rolled.
Maier was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the pickup. He was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the SUV, a 64-year-old man from Steele, was not injured. Four cows also died in the crash.
Kidder County Sheriff’s Office, Steele Police, Kidder County Fire, Kidder County Ambulance, and Sanford Air Med assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
