ANOKA, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – An Anoka man was arrested Tuesday after leading federal investigators to the cache of weapons hidden inside the home that he allegedly also used to produce meth inside of. Those weapons include a machine gun and a grenade launcher.
Darrian Mitchell Nguyen, 50, is charged in a federal criminal complaint for illegally possessing a machine gun and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The complaint alleges Nguyen asked a Confidential Human Source to give him firearms to correct a debt. The pair met Tuesday and Nguyen took possession of a short-barreled rifle equipped with an auto sear and additional auto sears.
Police quickly arrested Nguyen after he took possession of the weapons.
The FBI began investigating Nguyen in April after the same Confidential Human Source provided a tip that Nguyen was in possession of explosive devices, firearms, and methamphetamine. The CHS also said Nguyen had expressed interest in joining the Three Percenter militia group.
Investigators said the weapons, including rifles, shotguns, handguns, a grenade launcher, and pipe bombs were kept in “secret” rooms built within the walls of his residence.
Nguyen made his first appearance Wednesday in U.S. District Court.
