ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – A Red Lake man has been sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison for aggravated sexual assault after pleading guilty in April.
The crime took place in November of 2020 when 30 year-old John Paul Sayers offered a ride to a woman who was walking on the road and instead of taking her to her destination, he drove to a camper located near a hemp shop where he worked. When the woman resisted his sexual advances, Sayers hit and strangled her until she passed out, then raped her.
This case was the result of an investigation conducted by the FBI, the Red Lake Tribal Police Department, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court by Judge Eric C. Tostrud.
