MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Nine people, including all but one incumbent, have declared their candidacies for Moorhead City Council.
One seat in each of Moorhead’s wards are up for election this November, with three of four incumbents throwing their hats back into the ring. Chuck Hendrickson of Ward 4 is the only candidate running unopposed.
In Ward 1, Shelly Dahlquist did not file to run again and Ryan Nelson, a former Moorhead police officer and current Head of Public Safety at MSUM is running for the seat against NDSU Admissions Counselor Siham Amedy.
Council member Heather Nesemeier in Ward 2 is challenged by Eileen Johnson. Deborah White, the incumbent in Ward 3, will face off against Dr. Rick Melbye.
The mayor’s seat is also on the ballot.
Incumbent Mayor Shelly Carlson is being challenged by Kevin Shores. Shores has run for the seat before and is known for his activism on behalf of disabled veterans.
Although Carlson is the incumbent, she’s never run for the seat before, having been appointed after former Mayor Jonathan Judd was appointed to a judgeship by Gov. Tim Walz. She was previously a council member.
