FARGO – The motorcyclist who was struck by a speeding pickup in a hit-and-run crash on the interstate in Fargo on Tuesday is making significant progress in recovering from life-threatening injuries.
Eric O’Meara of Horace was headed south on Interstate 29 when he was hit from behind by the pickup. The pickup driver sped off.
O’Meara, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, has been hospitalized in intensive care since the crash. His girlfriend, Heather Brouillet, says O’Meara has broken ribs, road rash, and a severe concussion and was placed on a ventilator.
The State Patrol says the pickup driver, 28-year-old Maichael Yousa of Fargo, later fired at a trooper after crashing into another vehicle on the interstate. A trooper shot Yousa who was taken to a Fargo hospital and later to the Cass County Jail. He’s charged with reckless endangerment with other charges expected.
The trooper is on paid administrative leave. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the shooting at the request of the patrol.
