FARGO – Fargo City Hall was closed for several hours Wednesday afternoon for a reason. It was part of active shooter training planned for months in Fargo to test security, sheltering and evacuation plans in the event an intruder comes into the public building.
Brady Scribner, the city’s emergency management specialist says one surprising element he didn’t expect was how quickly the responders reacted to the drill that simulated a real-life shooter situation. He said, “It almost threw us a curve ball on the emergency management side.”
More than 200 people were involved, police officers, firefighters, city employees, and some actors who simulated a real-life shooter situation.
The training preparation was in the works for months. Scribner says it took so long because the pandemic interrupted the process,
The city’s already taken some measures for safety, including having safety personnel in place.
