FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney has captured another four-year term. It took until about 10:30 Tuesday night before vote totals began to trickle in. He told KFGO News he focused on the issues and that some of other candidates were unclear what they would do as mayor.
“I think some of the campaigns by the other candidates didn’t quite hit full swing. You have to put your platform out and differentiate yourself as a candidate. I didn’t feel like that went on. A lot of it was just running against Mahoney,” he said. “Put out your platform. What are you going to do for us?”
Commissioner Arlette Preston came in second in the race. Shannon Roers-Jones was third.
“We knew from the beginning that it was going to be an uphill battle running against an incumbent, that’s why we had to spend more money than the average race. We started out by doing some mail and some television to build up name ID,” Roers-Jones said. “Throughout the process we’ve had a little bit of a challenge with some I think unwarranted scrutiny on one of our projects in North Fargo.”
Roers-Jones was referring to the delayed construction of townhomes that were part of the Newman Center project near NDSU.
Hukun Dabar was fourth followed by Michael Borgie, Sheri Fercho, and Dustin Elliott.
