FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO) – A man has been arrested by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office in connection with thefts of catalytic converters and for causing damage to the Pelican Rapids city impound lot.
34-year-old Darin Dillon, of rural Pelican Rapids, is charged with two counts of felony theft. Sheriffs deputies who investigated reports of converters stolen from several businesses determined they were being sold to a scrap dealer in Wolverton, Minnesota.
Court records show that Dillon sold 155 catalytic converters and 69 vehicle batteries over the past year to the scrap dealer who paid Dillon more than $50,000.
Investigators are working through dozens of theft reports to match up the thefts to victims.
The majority of the thefts appear from vehicles from Pelican Rapids to Fergus Falls.
