DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO) – The Minnesota Department of Transportation has lifted the no travel advisory on state and federal highways in Clay County. Visibility has improved in these areas, however, roads are completely snow and ice-covered so motorists are advised to reduce speeds and drive according to conditions.
travel may still be difficult on county, township and municipal roads. Check with local agencies for their road conditions.
Motorists should:
- Check road conditions at www.511mn.org or call 511; it takes time to get roads back to good driving conditions.
- Be patient and remember snowplows are working to improve road conditions for their trip.
- Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow, far from the snow cloud.
- Stay alert for snowplows that turn or exit frequently and often with little warning. Plows may also travel over centerlines or partially in traffic to further improve road conditions.
- Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions. Snowplows typically move at slower speeds.
Snow accumulations range from 6-10 inches or more. As of 7 a.m., on the Minnesota side, Moorhead received 8”, Breckenridge 7.2”, and Detroit Lakes 8”. In North Dakota, Kindred reported 9.5”, Grand Forks 4.8”, and Lisbon received 11”.
