I was having a pretty good Tuesday until I stumbled across this article. (Kidding – but seriously, as someone who loves to drink a hearty glass of wine as pictured to the right, this definitely had a sobering effect on my mood this morning.)
There’s been a lot of research how alcohol contributes to the world-wide obesity problem; and studies are showing there could be health benefits to adding CALORIE LABELS to alcohol containers. 75% of people of legal drinking age actually have no idea how many calories they’re consuming with each alcoholic beverage, and the average person ends up drinking at least 11% of their daily calories in alcohol alone.
As a public health measure, experts are suggesting to publish this information to hopefully bring awareness to lower consumption and maybe slim down some waistlines, too. Right now, there’s a big push in the UK that could lead to each individual can or bottle being printed with nutritional information.
That doesn’t seem like a bad idea to me. Although I feel like it could hurt my feelings sometimes. The fact that really slaughtered me this morning was that a glass of wine can contain as many calories as a DOUGHNUT. Kinda hurts you a little too, doesn’t it?
I’ll just cut down to one glass of wine instead of two next time I’m at girl’s night. 😉
Cheers to (maybe) switching to a lower calorie beverage, or, in my case, not caring at all because that glass of wine is TOO GOOD.
XOXO, Alyssa
