FARGO, N.D. – North Fargo residents are asked to monitor their water for unusual smells, appearance, or taste following isolated reports in an area north of County Road 20 and near University Drive North of high chlorine contents in one home’s water on Wednesday afternoon. The chlorine content in the reported home was not high enough to be harmful to residents or damaging to clothing.
City staff determined the cause of the chlorination was from a nearby new water main under construction that contained residual chlorine and was opened to the surrounding water mains. City staff flushed nearby fire hydrants and tested chlorine concentrations in the water to ensure the system returned to normal.
If the chlorine smell, cloudy water, or unusual taste are noticed outside of the area north of County Road 20, residents are asked to contact the Fargo Water Treatment Plant at 701-241-1469 to allow crews to flush nearby water mains.
