FARGO (KFGO) – Leaders from the F-M community and Washington D.C. came together to review the progress of the FM Diversion today.
Senator John Hoeven, Chief of the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers Lieutenant General Scott Spellmon, were joined by Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney, Moorhead Mayor Shelley Carlson, and Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach.
They toured the Wild Rice Control Structure construction site Southwest of Fargo.
Senator Hoeven was impressed by the progress and excited by the comforts the Diversion will give the local community.
“Once we build it, It’s not just that you now protect local lives and property, but you make sure your citizens don’t have to buy expensive flood insurance year in and year out,” said Hoeven.
Chief of the Army Corps of Engineers, Lieutenant General Scott Spellmon says he’s happy the project is ahead of schedule.
“This is my third visit to this project and it’s great to be back in the region. It’s a joy to come to a project that is on schedule, within budget, and being constructed safely. We call that winning today in the Army Corps of Engineers,” said Spellmon
This is the first major Army Corp’s project to utilize the P3 split-delivery model, which enables the project to be built more cost-effectively and on a significantly faster timeline.
The P3 model will save the project $330 million dollars and 10 years worth of work.
