GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – It’s been 94 years since a time capsule was sealed inside a corner of the old Memorial Stadium.
The 1927 structure being demolished to make way for a new 25 million dollar building that will house UND athletic offices on the first floor and market-rate apartments on the upper four floors. UND leaders opened the copper box during a virtual ceremony to pay tribute to the stadium. Inside officials found original copies of the Dakota Student newspaper, an edition of the Grand Forks Herald, tickets to the first homecoming game in the stadium, alumni publications, and a press release announcing stadium construction. UND President Andrew Armacost says seeing the artifacts was like looking back in time.
The items will find a new home at the Chester Fritz Library.
