I don’t know the exact day it happened but I was around 16 when my mom found a “scandalous” piece of underwear on my bedroom floor. She was mad at me for having underwear like that and I was completely mortified that she found them. From that day forward we both agreed I would do my own laundry. If I could tell my 16 year old self anything it would be to toss out all the “scandalous” underwear and stock up on granny panties because laundry is the WORST.
When I was single and only doing laundry for myself I was able to handle it. Once I was married and I started doing my husbands it got to be a little more annoying and now that I am doing it for my son…. let’s just say it’s a mess. The first few times I did my sons laundry I enjoyed it. Folding the cute tiny little sleepers, the sweet little pants and the teeny tiny socks. It was so cute. Now those teeny tiny socks are my enemy. My husband is obviously teaching my son his sock monster ways…..
- taking their socks off in random places
- stuffing socks into the couch
- sucking them up with the vacuum
- burning them in the backyard
Laundry is never fun and for anyone who says they enjoy it.. well they’re just not a person who can be trusted. If you have help with laundry in your household consider yourself very lucky. I have tried to recruit my husband to do the odd load of laundry and very quickly decided that was a bad idea after I had to toss out the entire load.
In order to make mine and hopefully your laundry life easier I have compiled some great laundry tips for you to check out. Also if you would like to add any let me know!
- Throw your detergent cap in with the laundry to wash it. It will come out clean and dry and you can just put it back on the softener container.
- Experts recommend you clean your wash machine once every 8 weeks. You can do this by running an empty machine on the hottest cycle with a cup of vinegar.
- When dealing with stains on organic bamboo items or soft delicate items use dawn dish soap. Spray it on the item let it soak for about 10 minutes and wash on delicate. Hang to dry.
- For stains on cotton items their are lots of things you can use. Shaving cream, vodka, chalk, vinegar, backing soda, bleach (be very careful using bleach on items) and lemon juice.
- DIY wrinkle spray- Water, Vinegar and hair conditioner. This works great on dress clothes!
- Clothes last longer when washed with COLD water.
- Baby Powder works great on oil stains. Make sure to really let it absorb the oil.
- Another great way to get rid of wrinkles is to throw some ice cubes into the dryer.
- I saw a woman cleaning CLEAN towels in her bath tub on a Tik Tok video and I had to try it right away. It’s called laundry stripping and it is AMAZING. First off your going to fill a tub with hot water. Then add in 1/4 cup of Borax, 1/4 cup Baking Soda, 1 Cup Vanish Oxy Powder. Stir ( I used a hanger) and let soak for at least 5 hours. You will be shocked at how gross the water gets and how clean your towels or bedding will be.
