ST. PAUL, MN (KFGO) – A paper mill in Grand Rapids is facing a $25,000 fine in the death of a former NHL player.
Scot Kleinendorst was injured while operating heavy machinery at the UPN Blandin paper company last December and later died in the hospital.
OSHA’S investigation determined that the 59-year-old Kleinendorst was not wearing a seat belt in the empty log loader when it went off the road and tipped onto its side, ejecting him from the cab. Blandin is contesting the fine.
Kleinendorst played for the Whalers, Rangers and Capitals in the 1980s and was an all-state defenseman at Grand Rapids High School.
