FARGO, N.D (KFGO) – Students living in NDSU residence halls have been filtering back to campus this week to clear out their dorm rooms as the university, like other higher education institutions across the state, has switched to remote class instruction for the remainder of the spring semester to limit the spread of COVID-19.
Pat Miller of Alexandria, Minnesota, drove to Fargo to help his daughter load up her belongings. “You know as freshman, it’s a big change for her because of the change, coming to college and now the change of coming back home but she’s been doing fine, studying on-line and staying busy,” he said.
Jack Law, a junior and a dorm RA returned to clear out his room and head back home to Andover, Minnesota. “We were totally caught off guard and rolling with the punches and struggling to adapt, it’s definitely been surreal between on-line classes and moving out. It’s been kinda crazy,” Law said.
Rian Nostrum, Director of NDSU’s Residence Life, says the university carefully planned the move-outs, scheduling students in groups, in alphabetical order by the last name to avoid crowds.
The check-outs will continue through the weekend. Nostrum says NDSU will work with students unable to retrieve their property at this time and is in the process of determining reimbursement for the cost of dorm rooms no longer in use.
