Moving to the United States has been an adventure to say the least
and you wouldn’t think that Canada was so different but it is. One of the first
major differences that I noticed was the health care. Not only is it significantly
better but you have a large amount of choices. When I first found out I was
pregnant I had to decide who I wanted to help me bring my little peanut into
the world.
After careful consideration and lots of research my husband and
I decided that Sanford Women’s would be the best choice! I had a few friends
tell me that Dr. Kappenman was really great so my husband and I booked our
first appointment with him.
I spent the morning prior to my first appointment sweating
profusely and going through every possible scenario, good and bad. Was I
actually pregnant? If I am pregnant is the baby okay? What if I have more the
one baby in there? Who is the father? (just kidding!) I envisioned myself
leaving the appointment happy and excited but also sad with tears in my eyes.
The first thing I noticed when I walked into the Sanford Southpointe-OBGYN clinic were the pretty white floral lights on the ceiling. It felt
more like a spa then a doctors office. My husband and I were instantly taken to
a room once we were checked in at the front desk. The nurse who came and talked
to us was very friendly and reassuring.
Doctor Kappenman came into the room with a smile on his face and
seemed very positive as he asked me questions. He instantly made me feel
comfortable and even laughed at my husbands terrible jokes. **BONUS POINTS** (Kidding
hunny your very funny 😉 )
The second I heard that little heart beat I knew that everything
was okay. It took everything in me not to start crying. I was so happy. I’m
having a baby!!!
Oh oops ***We are having a baby.
After our appointment we went to the desk and made the rest of
our appointments for the next few months. They were very accommodating with
mine and my husbands’ busy schedules.
Since my first appointment I have had two ultrasounds and an
appointment once a month. All of which Dr. Kappenman has been there for. I also
went to the Sanford Broadway clinic to get some genetic testing done which made
a very eager me, super excited to find out the gender of our baby early.
My next appointment is in a couple weeks where I will have
another ultrasound done and meet with my doctor.
