Fargo, ND (redhawks sports info)-- What was a tight game going to the ninth inning ended as a rout as the Winnipeg Goldeyes scored ten runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 14-4 on Sunday afternoon and complete the series sweep at Newman Outdoor Field. During the entire series Winnipeg always struck first, and today’s game was no exception. With one man out, Josh Mazzola and Casey Haerther both received a walk from Brian Ernst. Ray Sadler loaded the bases with a single and two-run single by Donnie Webb made the score 2-0 in the Fish’s favor. The RedHawks answer came in the bottom of the second, courtesy of Nic Jackson’s solo home run, his fifth long ball of the year. The RedHawks attempted a push for one more run in the bottom of the third inning. Anthony Kaskadden opened the inning up with a double, and moved to third on Sawyer Carroll’s fly ball to deep center field. Kaskadden, however, was thrown out at home on Zach Penprase’s fielder’s choice as the score remained 2-1 for the Fish. Fargo-Moorhead took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Travis Higgs plated Petey Paramore and Dusty Robinson. The score turned back in Winnipeg’s favor in the sixth inning on Casey Haerther’s two-run single made for a 4-3 lead for the Goldeyes. The Goldeyes ten-run ninth inning was highlighted by home runs from Reggie Abercrombie and Donnie Webb. Winnipeg starting pitcher Ethan Hollingsworth worked into the eighth inning to pick up the win, while RedHawks reliever Kevin Fuqua suffered the loss.
