Police emails reveal strong feelings about TV school security report

FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Local law enforcement leaders and school administrators have strong feelings about a Fargo TV news report that focused on school security.

Emails obtained through an open records request by KFGO News reveal that the report by Mellaney Moore was discussed by officials extensively.

West Fargo Superintendent David Flowers said the Valley News Live report was in the spirit of playing "gotcha". Flowers said KVLY "advertised with mal intent that schools are vulnerable".

An email by Clay County Attorney Brian Melton said he doesn't like the way KVLY does business. Melton said “I don’t think we gain anything at this point by going after (Moore) when it is largely her bosses who are at fault.”

In another email, Moorhead Police Chief David Ebinger said “I am not sure anything would be accomplished by prosecuting a clueless dupe and providing KVLY with further attention to this sensationalize mess of a report.” West Fargo Police Chief Arland Rasmussen wrote: "Sure is evident they (KVLY) broke the law!"

Police in Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead recently closed the books on their investigation.

KVLY News Director Ike Walker says he has no comment.
