FARGO (KFGO-AM) - South Dakota's tourism secretary is apologizing because rock singer Joan Jett will perform on the state's float during the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade.
Jett is a vegetarian and animal rights activist. Her planned appearance has rankled South Dakota's farming and ranching industry.
Tourism secretary Jim Hagen says he’s sorry for the controversy. Hagen says probably could have done a better job at selecting a more appropriate performer.
Hagen says he's spoken personally with Macy's about the issue. He says Macy's assured him that they would never do anything to cause South Dakota harm.
