Three-Peat! NDSU Claims Third FCS National Championship

by Elliot Hoekstra

For a third straight year the Herd marched into Frisco, Texas. And for the third straight year the Bison stampeded out with an FCS National Championship.

NDSU and Towson traded punches early with the game knotted up at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

And as Towson looked to have the momentum, NDSU special teams came up big once again with a blocked field goal nearly returned for a touchdown.

The Herd didn’t look back. NDSU found the endzone twice before halftime and continued to roll to a 35-7 victory.

The offense was sharp.

The Defense was dominant.

And the special teams were, well…special.

The game was similar to many games this season. NDSU took a lead early and spent most of the 4th quarter simply trying to run out the clock and add another check in the win column.

And as the clock struck zero in Frisco, the Bison finished off an undefeated season and will carry yet another trophy back to Fargo.

Though many of these events are familiar to NDSU football fans, there was undoubtedly something special about 2013-2014 Bison.

Whether it was a senior class that created a dynasty in FCS Football, a coach leading his team onto the field for the final time, or a season unscathed, the question has already been asked. Is this the best Bison team ever?

And for a program with such a rich history of success, the fact we’re asking the question is enough.

Congratulations NDSU on a third straight FCS National Championship and an undefeated season!
