The Guardians of the Galaxy could be one of the biggest movies of the year and you’ve probably have never heard of it or you have no idea what it’s about. The trailer for the Disney-owned Marvel movie was just released exclusively on the Disney-owned ABC staple, Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Before you watch the highly anticipated trailer in the comic book movie universe, there is a few things you should probably know about the movie and the characters. The movie features some high profiled actors, but they are either unrecognizable due to makeup or it’s just their voices.
The main character is “Star-Lord,” Peter Quill and is played by Parks and Recs & Lego Movie voice actor Chris Pratt. The character of Peter Quill is half-human, half-alien and finds himself as a shady thief, who ends up as a hero after joining with four other characters who are in a similar circumstance as him.
One of the other four is Gamora, a seductive assassin with daddy issues played by Zoe Saldana. Another character is super strong and deadly Drax the Destroyer played by WWE star Dave Bautista. The other two characters are CGI, but voiced by movie stars Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel. Cooper plays Rocket Raccoon, an alien raccoon that has a cocky attitude and an array of weapons to back him up. Along his side is Groot, voiced by Diesel. The character is described as his “muscle” in the movie and is a giant leafless tree that only says “I am Groot.”
Also part of the cast in the movie is Benicio del Toro, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Djimon Hounsou, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close. Guardians of the Galaxy was written and directed by James Gunn, who has previously written and directed a wide range of movies including Dawn of the Dead and Scooby Doo.
The movie will be released into theaters August 1, 2014.
